October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month

During the month of October, Erie County will hold many special events to help raise awareness of domestic violence. Some of these activities are walks, a bike-a-thon, doing fundraisers, and lighting Niagra Falls purple. According to Child and Family services, there have been nine domestic violence homicides this past year in Erie County. Less than a week ago, a woman in Erie County was killed by her boyfriend during a murder suicide in Buffalo.

If you are a victim of domestic violence, or anyone you know is dealing with it, contact the Child and Family Services hotline at 716-884-6000.

"Domestic violence is something that effects every aspect of our community. It doesn't matter how much your income is, or what your race or religion is." - Laura Grube

  1. No one should deal with domestic violence. People who know others that are being abused should get help immediately.
