Facts on Domestic Violence

Domestic violence can also be known as domestic abuse or intimate partner violence. This can occur between a married couple, divorced people, or two people who are only dating. It is known as abusive behavior used to take control or feel powerful over the other partner. In the United States, and all over the world, domestic violence is a very serious and dangerous problem. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, this type of violence is the cause of about 1,300 deaths and 2 million injuries every year. Wmen between the ages of sixteen and twenty-four are at the highest risk of domestic violence, and partners who are separated or divorced are also at a higher risk of experiencing it. Domestic violence can occur in different forms. Some of these include; physical violence, sexual violence, threats, and psychological and emotional violence. All forms of domestic violence are serious, and should be properly handled and taken care of.
